Aljezur, Portugal

28 & 29 May 2027

Carolien and Finn’s celebration weekend

While our legal wedding will take place in Wellington earlier in the year, our Aljezur celebration is two day relaxed gathering to celebrate our marriage with friends and family. This is a chance for us to eat, drink, and spend time together in a place we love.

Day Before the celebration – Beach Get‑Together

Friday 28 May 2027

11 AM to 3:30 PM at Praia de Monte Clérigo

Join us at the beach for a relaxed get-together before the big day. Think jandals and toggs — easy-going and casual.

This is simply a chance for us all to spend time together and soak up the sunshine.

Feel welcome to drop in & come and go as you please. There is no pressure to stay the whole time.

What you need to know

  • BYO picnic – Please bring your own food, snacks, and drinks.

  • Facilities: There are cafés/restaurants and public toilets near the beach.

  • What to bring: Sun protection, layers for later in the day, and a towel or blanket if you’d like to sit on the sand. Beach games are welcome – Frisbee, cornhole, cards, anything fun!

  • Dress code: Beach casual – Swimwear, jandals, and hats.

  • We’ll confirm the exact meeting point closer to the date, so please check the website for updates.

Finn and Carolien’s celebration

Saturday 29 May 2027

From 4 PM until midnight at Museu da Batata Doce

As sweet potato is famously grown in Aljezur, it felt only right to celebrate being married at Museu da Batata Doce - the Sweet Potato Museum!

Nestled in the countryside, this rustic and character-filled venue will be the setting for an afternoon and evening of food, music, and celebration with all of you.

Here’s a rough outline of the day:

4:00pm – Guests arrive, welcome drinks & light bites

5:00pm – Symbolic ceremony

5:30pm – Ceremony ends,

guests enjoy some refreshments while we get our photos taken

6:00–8:00pm – Seated dinner & speeches

From 9:00pm – Dancing & music

Midnight – Party ends 🎶

Parking is available near the beach, including a main car park and some roadside parking further away.

We recommend renting a car or car-pooling where possible.

If you’re not driving, please book a taxi for both arrival and return, as availability can be limited. A taxi from Aljezur to Praia de Monte Clérigo typically costs €15 and takes around 10 minutes. We’ve included links to a couple of recommended local taxi companies below.

Other taxis like Uber and Bolt also operate in the area, but coverage can be patchy sometimes.

Booking tips

We strongly recommend hiring a car.

Accommodation, beaches, and celebration venues are not all within walking distance, and taxis are limited — especially late in the evening.

Car sharing is also a great option if you’re travelling in a group.

Book your accommodation early

Late May is a popular time in the Algarve, and accommodation in and around Aljezur is limited. Booking early will give you the best choice and prices.

Consider staying with others

If you’re travelling with others, book together. Villas and larger guesthouses often work out cheaper per person and make logistics easier.

Check parking is available at your stay

Confirm whether parking is available on-site or nearby your accommodation — this will make your stay much smoother.

Contact places directly if availability looks limited.

Some smaller hotels and guesthouses release rooms later or keep availability off booking platforms.

Travel information

Aljezur and the surrounding coastline are beautiful but fairly spread out, so planning your travel in advance will make your stay much easier.

Arriving by Plane

Please fly into Faro International Airport. It is the closest airport to the celebration venues and offers many direct flight options from major UK cities.

Passport & visa information

A valid passport is required to visit Portugal. If you are traveling from the UK or the EU you do not need to apply for a visa.

Car hire options

There are several car hire options available at Faro Airport (e.g. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Sixt, Hertz) making this the easiest option for getting around during your stay. Here are some car hire companies we tend to use for getting around.

Car hire info

Reserve your car well before you travel — to ensure you get the vehicle you want and avoid last-minute price surges or limited availability.

Tolls & Via Verde

Portugal uses electronic toll roads, and many motorways don’t have toll booths.

Most rental cars come with Via Verde, an electronic toll device that automatically records tolls and charges them later through the rental company.

When you collect your car, please check:

That Via Verde is activated

How tolls are charged (pay-as-you-go or daily fee)

Taxi services

Taxis are available in the area but can be limited, particularly at night and on weekends.

We recommend pre-booking taxis if you plan to use them.

Faro Airport Transfers Algarve – highly reviewed transfer company that can arrange pre-booked private transfers door-to-door between Faro Airport and your accommodation. Pre-booking ensures drivers are waiting even if flights are delayed, and often cheaper than metered airport taxis.

Algarve Faro Airport Transfers, Alltravel – another experienced shuttle/transfer provider for airport connections and regional travel.
